What Can You Expect from Honda Sensing?

Honda has always been a leader in safety, and today, their advanced Honda Sensing safety package is leading the entire industry forward. This year, Honda is offering these driver-assistance features on a wide variety of vehicles, and in many cases, the features are even available across multiple trim levels! Honda’s push to expand access to top-tier safety features has made them a favorite with drivers and critics alike. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded their coveted 2017 Top Safety Pick+ designation to six of Honda’s vehicles, more than any other manufacturer.* When you take advantage of what the Honda Sensing package is offering, you’re sure to get more out of the time you spend on the road! Below, we break down the Honda Sensing features individually.

Honda Sensing Technologies Act Automatically

All of the Honda Sensing safety features are designed to take the stress out of driving, and the most advanced of these can even take partial control over functions like steering and braking when necessary. When you drive with Honda Sensing, your automobile will be able to respond to challenges on the road automatically.

Lane Departure Warning: Your system’s LDW uses a front-facing camera to keep track of the road’s lanes, and it uses audiovisual cues to let you know when you might be exiting yours!

Lane Keeping Assist System: The LKAS takes the capabilities of the LDW one step further. This technology will automatically adjust your trajectory in order to help you stay in your lane.

Road Departure Mitigation System: The Road Departure Mitigation System uses technology similar to that which powers the LKAS. This feature works to prevent you from coming into contact with the road shoulder.

Adaptive Cruise Control: With ACC, drivers will be able to set their preferred speed and follow distance and let their vehicle’s onboard computer take the stress out of driving. ACC works like normal cruise control, but it responds to the flow of traffic automatically.

Collision Mitigation Braking System: CMBS can stop bring your vehicle to a complete stop if it determines that you’re in danger of crashing.

Forward Collision Warning: FCW uses a camera to provide an additional line of defense against head-on collisions. It uses audio and visual cues to let you know when it’s a good idea to apply the brake.

Driver-Assistance Honda Sensing Features

The Honda Sensing features detailed here help to keep drivers safe by enhancing their ability to gather knowledge about their surroundings. Unlike those features outlined above, none of the elements identified here will have any control over the vehicle, but they will let you respond to changing conditions in real time!

Honda Lanewatch

Honda LaneWatch: Using Honda LaneWatch is like having a side-view mirror that shows you a much wider field of view! This feature sends a live feed of your blind spot to your center console screen whenever you activate your turn signal.

Blind Spot Information System

Blind Spot Information System: The BSIS display lights up automatically whenever a vehicle enters into your blind spot, making it easier to stay focused on the road ahead.

Cross Traffic Monitoring with car backing up

Cross-Traffic Monitor: The Cross-Traffic Monitor enhances the capabilities of your Honda vehicle’s multi-angle rearview camera. When you’re moving in reverse, it will alert you to movement at your vehicle’s side!

High Beam Headlights

Auto High-Beam Headlights: No one enjoys flicking back and forth between their high and low beams when they’re driving late at night! With these Auto High-Beam Headlights, your Honda vehicle will adjust the brightness of your lights automatically when the sun is down and you’re travelling more than 25 mph.

Honda Sensing Vehicles and Awards

As we alluded to above, the Honda Sensing safety package is available on vehicles of nearly every different model type! Those in the market for a new sedan will find Honda Sensing features in the 2017 Honda Accord Sedan, the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid, and the 2017 Honda Civic Sedan. The 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid earned the highest IIHS 2017 Top Safety Pick+ designation, and when equipped with Honda Sensing and Projector Beam Halogen Lights, the Accord Sedan did, too!* When equipped with Honda Sensing and LED headlights, larger models and compact SUVs like the 2017 Honda Pilot, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline, and the 2017 Honda CR-V also earned the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ award!* We should also note that both the Accord and the Civic are being offered in coupe designs—and each can be equipped with Honda Sensing. The 2017 Honda Accord Coupe, the 2017 Honda Civic Coupe, and the 2017 Honda Civic Sedan were each named as 2017 IIHS Top Safety Picks.** Drivers who’d like to enjoy more interior volume without buying a much larger vehicle will be able to access Honda Sensing in the all-new 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback. The wide availability of Honda Sensing makes it easy to get top-tier safety in your next new car, no matter what sort of model is right for you.
